The Central Connecticut Health District (CCHD) is the local health department serving the towns of Berlin, Newington, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield.

The district was formed in June 1996 with the towns of Rocky Hill and Wethersfield. Berlin joined the District in 1998, followed by Newington in 2006. CCHD is overseen by a fourteen member Board of Health and functions as an independent entity of government. CCHD underwent centralization in 2019 and is currently located in Rocky Hill.

CCHD Announces Winners of the "Walk this May" Four-Town Walking Competition |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Winners of ‘WALK THIS MAY’ Four-Town Walking Competition Announced

In partnership with our four towns of Berlin, Newington, Rocky Hill and Wethersfield, and our partner Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Central Connecticut Health District (CCHD) is happy to announce the award recipients for the 2022 “Walk this May” Four-Town Walking Competition!

Before we announce the winners, thank you to everyone who participated in the Competition! This month-long event reminds us that we can improve our fitness with the simple act of walking.

• Together, the nearly 350 participants logged 73,963,262 total steps (+ activities).  All those steps are equivalent to about 1.5 trips around our Earth!

The step total translates into 3,328,347 calories burned. At 3,500 calories per pound, we collectively lost 951 pounds!

And now for the Awards!

I. High Stepper Award Trophy: awarded to the TOWN earning the highest overall number of steps

The clear winner for 2022 is ... Rocky Hill! Congratulations!  This is Rocky Hill’s first time winning the High Stepper trophy!  They grabbed the winning laurels with an impressive total of 29,851,560 steps.  The totals for Newington, Wethersfield and Berlin were closer together with 16,122,080, 15,722,892, and 13,002,327 steps respectively.

II. Impact Award Plaque: awarded to the TOWN achieving the highest participant enrollment

For the first time, the winner of the Impact Award is the same as the High Stepper Award!  Rocky Hill!  It’s a sweep this year for them. Rocky Hill had 120 participants logging steps and activities.

III. Million-Step Club Pins: awarded to INDIVIDUALS logging at least 1M steps

Two dedicated individuals will receive a “Million Step Club” pin this year.

1.      Laurie Cabral of Newington logged a whopping 1,046,560 steps

2.      Pradeep Ankaraju of Rocky Hill cleared the mark with 1,027,672 steps

Rocky Hill, it looks like it is a Triple Crown for you this year!  Both awards AND a resident in the Million Step Club belong to you.  Congratulations!

Thank you to all CCHD residents/workers who Walked this May
