Salons and Barbershops
The District adopted a Salon Ordinance in 2008. The ordinance identifies operational standards for all barbershops and beauty salons, including hair and nail salons. There are approximately 175 barber shops and salons in the District. Inspections focus on operational standards, proper equipment, facilities, and sanitation. All barbershops and salons are required to obtain an annual license from the District to operate.
Complaints concerning the operation or condition of a barbershop or salon should be directed to the District Sanitarians.
