Sanitarian / Environmental Health Specialist (37.5 hours - full time)

Central Connecticut Health District’s Environmental Health team is is looking for a Sanitarian / Environmental Health Specialist candidate for a full time, 37.5 hour/week position. The ideal candidate is a Registered Sanitarian/ Environmental Health Specialist.

Essential functions of the Sanitarian / Environmental Health Specialist include but are not limited to:

  • Performing routine inspections of regulated facilities (food establishments, public pools, hair and nail salons, motels and child care facilities) within the towns of Berlin, Newington, Rocky Hill & Wethersfield, CT

  • Investigating environmental complaints

  • Performing plan reviews for food service and salon establishments

  • Performing soil testing, plan review and site inspections for subsurface sewage disposal systems

    Minimal Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, public health, biology, sanitary engineering or a related field

  • CT Certified Food Inspector

  • Two years of responsible experience in the field of environmental health

  • Septic inspection, lead inspection and plan review experience

  • Registered Sanitarian / Registered Environmental Health Specialist preferred

    Salary for Registered Sanitarian commensurate with experience. May fill opening at a lower level with a non-R.S. Benefits include paid vacation, sick time, personal days and holidays, district 457 retirement plan with match and health/dental/life/long term disability insurance.

Recovery Coach (20 hours - Part time)

Central Connecticut Health District (CCHD) is looking for a Recovery Coach / Recovery Support Specialist candidate for a part time, 20 hour/week grant-funded position. A recovery coach is an individual whose role is to support others struggling with a substance use disorder (SUD).  

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Serving as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to both recovering individuals and those wishing to take steps towards recovery 

  • Engaging with clients within the community, encouraging those affected by opioid use disorders to set goals to seek sobriety, prevent relapse, reduce the harm associated with opioid usage (harm reduction), participate in recovery-oriented activities and develop a network of sober supports 

  • Assisting in the creation of a comprehensive community support resource list

  • Helping clients identify and access needed resources and recovery supports 

  • Active participation and engagement in any relevant meetings and workgroups related to the position 

  • Participation in the development and implementation of community training opportunities (such as naloxone training), awareness campaigns and stigma elimination related to prevention and treatment of substance use, mental health services, and trauma informed care at the health district and individual town level 

  • Participation in outreach and events to address harm and stigma reduction associated with substance use, mental health, trauma, homelessness, incarceration (such as health fairs, farmers’ markets, community events, etc) 

  • Conducting focus groups and community conversations with people who have lived experience of substance use, to improve the collection and analysis of information to address the supports, barriers and needs related to overdose prevention and gaps in surveillance in services 

  • Provide timely monthly reports which include accurate data as described in grant contracts, such as the number of naloxone doses distributed, number of referrals to care made, etc
