Putting on AIRS Asthma Prevention Program
What is Putting on AIRS?
Putting on AIRS (Asthma Indoor Risk Strategies) is a program designed to target the reduction of environmental asthma triggers in the home and provide education for self-management of asthma symptoms.
The Central Connecticut Health District received funding from the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) to coordinate the regional Putting on AIRS regional home assessment program.
Who can participate?
This program is available to Berlin, Newington, Rocky Hill and Wethersfield residents who suffer from asthma and/or have a child who suffers from asthma. It is also available to residents in Avon, Barkhamsted, Bloomfield, Bristol, Burlington, Canton, Colebrook, East Granby, East Hartford, Farmington, Glastonbury, Granby, Hartford, Hartland, Hebron, Manchester, Marlborough, New Britain, New Hartford, Simsbury, Southington, and South Windsor.
How much will it cost?
This program is provided at no cost to you, and has been funded by the CT Department of Public Health.
What Services does this program provide?
Specifically, with your permission, an asthma educator and an environmental specialist will visit your home to:
Review your medical provider’s asthma action plan and medications with you.
Provide education to help you understand how to better manage your asthma.
Walk through your home with you to help identify triggers of asthma.
Provide education on how to minimize asthma triggers in your home.
Provide a confidential report developed as part of your medical record to help manage asthma. This information will be shared with your health care provider.
