SEPTIC SAVING TIPS:
- Pump your septic tank every two years, make sure the
outlet filter is checked and cleaned.
- If you have a garbage disposal pump your tank every
year, better yet--compost your kitchen scraps.
- Keep kitchen grease out of your septic system; it can
clog your drain fields.
- Space out laundry loads over the course of the week
(TIP: a front loader washer uses half the water).
- Install low usage water fixtures.
- Water softeners and other water treatments are not allowed to discharge into
the septic system, because it causes damage to your septic system (contact
your local health department for more information).
- Use liquid laundry detergent. The use of sudsavers is recommended.
- Minimize the amount of household cleaners.
- Do not use automatic toilet bowl cleaners. The
continuous release of these chemicals into the septic system kills the
micro-organisms.
- Do not use septic tank additives. These products are
not necessary and some may be harmful to your septic system.
